Hey everyone!I have been a long time lurker on this subreddit.
Decided to finally create an account and post my journey so that hopefully it can help some fellow candidates out there. I passed my exam today after 290 minutes with around 40 minutes of break time. I have been following the users on this subreddit who have shared their tips on passing and want to say thanks for sharing because it helped and it motivated me to go crush the test! So thank you!So right into it. I have a telecommunications background (mainly RF) and have only really been in the InfoSec community for about two years now. I have been prepping for this exam pretty hardcore for about two and a half weeks now and about two weeks of 'attempting' to read the books before that.
I used the following resources to prepare they are listed from most used to least used.CCCure.org Practice tests - Did about 1800 questions total using the pro, closely related, and unattempted questions only settings. Did quizzed of 50-100 at a time and one 250 question a day before the exam. Highest score I got was an 84% on a 50 question test and a 72% on the 250 question test. These questions helped me work through the question to identify the domain and principle they were looking for. Do not go into CCCure with the hopes of memorizing questions and answers, it will not work.Total Tester Quiz engine from Shon Harris AIO 6th edition- the cd in the back of this book has a test engine with plenty of questions to go over.
I would switch between this and CCCure. The questions are worded differently and are very long winded so it will help you with the reasoning part of working through problems. I went through my weaker domains and did 50-100 questions on them. Other than that I did practice quizzes of about 50-125 questions on Total Tester.
I stayed in the mid 60% - 76% range. Never broke 80% on this one.McGraw Hill Online CISSP Exams- did a couple questions on my weak domains but other then that didn't use them much.Shon Harris CISSP Practice Exam Book- These questions helped tremendously, just cherry picked what I thought I needed to improve on.
There aren't too many so you could go through them all pretty quick.Shon Harris AIO 6th edition- DO NOT READ!!! I can not stress this enough. Do not try to read this book cover to cover it will just hurt you. Instead read the quick tips and questions at the end of each chapter.Eric Conrad 11th hour book- read one chapter on Security Architecture and Design.Eric Conrad CISSP Study Guide 2nd Edition- covered about 8 domains through reading. Way more concise and easy to read then the AIO.CISSP CBT Nugget Videos- These are amazing to tie it all in after doing questions and quizzes. I only watched my weak areas but not the entire series.Official ISC2 Flash Cards- Had a buddy go through the TrainingCamp.com course and he let me borrow the official ISC2 flash cards from the class. These things helped especially with word recognition.Sunflower Cram Document- This little PDF packs a punch!
I spent the whole day before the exam reviewing this document alone. Completely saved me a bunch of times on the actual exam.Ultimate Knowledge CISSP Training Course taught by Leo Dreiger- My work paid for me to attend this training and it was without a doubt the only reason that I passed this exam. Leo is a CISSP veteran that teaches concepts, principles, and test taking strategy.

He ties it all together in a way that anyone can understand. He also teaches mnemonics to use in the exam to knock out what he calls 'the low hanging fruit'. He runs a website called, I highly recommend checking out his training if you get a chance. He also preaches that you must take the exam within 2 weeks of any type of training seminar or program or you will lose about 90% of the information you retained from it. I think this was the major reason I passed.My best tip would be to not spend months and months of studying, I do not know a single person that took this route and passed. Schedule your test and let that be your motivating factor. It will help you prioritize your time better.

Passed mine today also (4/9). It was a very stressful test and I considered myself quite prepared. It took me around 2 hours 45 min to complete.I used:CBT Nuggets Videos11th hourCBK 4th EditionShon's AIO 6th (OP is correct, it is WAY in depth but a good reference for subjects you are falling behind on)Shon Harris CISSP Practice Exams Second Edition (great resource)CCCure (freepracticetests.org which are not free)CBT Nuggest Transcender EngineKeep your expectations in check with CCCure and transcender tests from CBT Nuggets. The practice questions are good for reinforcement but will not mirror most of the questions on the tests.
The CBT Nuggets videos are a great start for a CISSP study path but the really don't stand alone.Sunflower doc can be found atIts a great last minute resource to brush up with close to the test.
